PROJECTS
Jason Tucker-Schwartz is a biomedical engineer from the United States. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University. At Virginia, he worked with Dr. George Gillies and Dr. Srijoy Mahapatra to develop a novel pericardial access device, which increases safety during epicardial electrophyisology procedures. Based on this research, Jason and his advisors started a medical device company, EpiEP Inc., which is working towards commercial release of the technology. At Vanderbilt, Jason worked with Dr. Melissa Skala to develop optical instrumentation and signal analysis techniques for photothermal optical coherence tomography, an imaging technology that allows for three-dimensional high resolution imaging of nanoparticles and fluorophores in tissue.
Jason chose biomedical engineering as a career path so that could contribute to the development of novel and translational biomedical imaging modalities. He hopes that through the M+Visión Fellowship’s “real world clinical experiences and extensive training,” he will “develop and hone a thorough set of skills to successfully tackle major healthcare issues as part of a cross-functional team.”
